Council Agenda: $72 Million City Budget and More on Flooding Study

  • News
City Hall in Ocean City City Council has a full agenda
for its public meeting 7 p.m. Thursday (March 26) at City Hall in Ocean City, but here are some items that might be of special interest:
  • 2015 municipal budget: City Council is expected to introduce a $72 million budget that raises the local tax rate by 1.3 percent. (Read more from a February budget workshop.) A separate ordinance relates to the state's Cap Bank requirements. (See full agenda packet below.) The budget process will not be complete until a final public hearing and vote later this spring.
  • Street flooding review: A resolution to authorize an engineering report on one of the island's most flood-prone neighborhoods is back on the table. Read more: O.C. to Reconsider $44,720 Study of 26th to 34th Street Flooding.
  • No livestock in O.C.: It's unclear what prompted this amendment at this time, but a proposed ordinance would prohibit keeping non-domestic animals or livestock in any zone in Ocean City. The same ordinance addresses a minor change to the permitted styles of porch roofs.
  • Flashing traffic lights in winter: City Council will cast a final vote on turning two traffic signals to flashing mode in the off-season. Read more: Two Fewer Traffic Lights on a Winter Drive Down the Beach Side of Town.
  • Bond ordinance: City Council will cast a final vote on a $7.9 million bond ordinance that authorizes spending on boardwalk reconstruction and other facility repairs in town. Read more.
  • New tax collector: Council will vote to approve Terence S. Graff to replace the retired Gary Hink as tax collector. Graff has worked as tax collector in Estell Manor, West Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and Buena Vista Township.
