Ocean City Nor'easters Play Home Opener on Saturday

  • Things To Do
The Nor'easters call their home field at Carey Stadium "The Beach House." Ocean City's amateur soccer team, the Nor’easters, face the New York Red Bulls in a match to benefit the Community Food Bank of New Jersey’s “Feed the Storm Drive” 7 p.m. Saturday (June 20) at Carey Stadium, Sixth Street and Boardwalk. Fans donating non-perishable foods will receive $1 off per item, maximum 2 items. Purchase tickets at www.oceancityfc.com/tickets.
The Nor’easters are a professionally run amateur soccer club competing in North America’s top amateur league, the Premier Development League (PDL). The 65-team PDL is the fourth level of soccer in the United States, below the professional leagues: Major League Soccer (MLS), North American Soccer League (NASL) and United Soccer League (USL). As part of PDL, Nor’easters’ players have the ability to compete during the summer months in a professional environment while maintaining their collegiate eligibility and pursuing their academic goals.
More than 30 alumni have moved on to play professionally. Most recently, 2012 Eastern Conference Goalkeeper of the Year John McCarthy, 2014 Nor'easters team captain Shawn McLaws, and 2013 championship team member Timi Mulgrew advanced to play professionally in Major League Soccer with Philadelphia Union, New York Red Bulls and New England Revolution, respectively.
The Nor’easters will compete against The Red Bulls Under 23 Squad in a Mid-Atlantic Conference match-up on Saturday.
