Council Agenda: Honoring City Clerk; Pickleball and Parking

  • News
Proposed site for Pickleball courts that now will be returned to use as a parking lot. City Council meets for the final time in 2015 at public meeting 1 p.m. Monday (Dec. 28) at City Hall. Council and Mayor Jay Gillian will honor City Clerk Linda MacIntyre, who will retire at the end of the month after a 44-year career with the city. The meeting has a
brief agenda and includes a resolution to undo the work done to create new Pickleball courts off Tennessee Avenue. A contractor had begun work to convert an overflow parking lot from the nearby public boat ramp into new Pickleball courts. But council will vote Monday on a change order that would restore the parking lot. The city continues to explore options for accommodating both Pickleball and soft-surface tennis players at the existing tennis courts at Ocean City Intermediate School. The city has long been working to accommodate a growing legion of Pickleball devotees. The tennis-like game is played with paddles and a wiffleball on a small court. It's popular with players of all ages. The agenda also includes an executive session to discuss new appointments to Ocean City Zoning Board and Environmental Commission.
