An area between 53rd and 54th streets was closed at dawn Sunday morning as work crews revisited beach that already had been replenished.

PROGRESS: Work on the project resumed Thursday (Aug. 13) after an 11-week delay for dredge repairs. Crews were working and the beach was closed in two areas as of Sunday morning: 53rd to 54th Street and 51st Street.
Access to the beach is open from all streets. The beach near the water at at 53rd and 54th Street was closed early Sunday as crews touched up an area that already had been completed. By the day's end, 54th Street was reportedly back open as work progressed northward. This project area will progress northward toward 52nd Street on Monday.
The beach at 51st Street also was closed. The area between 51st Street and 47th Street will be the primary area of focus for the coming week.
WHAT’S NEXT: The project will proceed from 51st Street to 47th Street , then from 55th to 59th (by late September).
