A split in the pipeline feeding new sand to Ocean City's beach replenishment project sends some toward 54th Street Beach (above) and some toward 51st Street.
Check OCNJ Daily for updates and photos of the Ocean City beach replenishment project for 2015 in the south end between 37th and 59th Streets.
DATE: Friday, August 14
An orange fence marks the boundary of a crowded beach at 52nd Street and a project area at 51st Street waiting for new sand (left).
PROGRESS: Work on the project resumed Thursday (Aug. 13) after an 11-week delay for dredge repairs. Crews are working and the beach is closed in two areas as of Friday afternoon: 54th Street and 51st Street.
Access to the beach is open from all streets. The beach near the water at 54th Street is closed as crews touch up an area that already had been completed. Visitors accessing the beach from 54th can walk a half-block toward 55th Street or a half-block toward 53rd Street to access the water. This project area will progress northward toward 52nd Street over the weekend.
The beach at 51st Street also is closed. Visitors accessing there can walk a half-block toward 50th Street or a full block to just north of the 52nd Street entrance to access the water. The area between 51st Street and 47th Street will be the primary area of focus for the coming week.
WHAT’S NEXT: The project will proceed from 51st Street to 47th Street , then from 55th to 59th (by late September).
