Ocean City police and firefighters teamed up to revive an unconscious and unresponsive fisherman on the beach near the Ocean City-Longport Bridge on Sunday.
The man had suffered an apparent heart attack and the emergency call came at about 8:55 a.m.
Police were first on the scene at the beach on the Great Egg Harbor Inlet just to the ocean side of the bridge.
The officer initiated chest compressions, and Ocean City Fire Department EMTs were close behind with an electronic defibrillator.
CPR continued as the man was transported across the wide north-end beach on a police four-wheel-drive vehicle that met a waiting ambulance.
The man was transported to Shore Medical Center.
Patient information was not available from the hospital on Monday, but the victim is expected to survive.
The use of
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) devices has been credited with saving the lives. All EMT units carry the devices, but police are launching an initiative to purchase more of the devices as they are often first responders.
