Grandmother Dr. Janice Lake Betts is a direct descendent of the Lake Family who founded Ocean City, New Jersey. Mrs. Betts' son James and grandaughter Felicia Betts will also show their photographs at this time. A "Meet the Artists" reception will be held Friday, Oct. 10, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Dr. Betts received her doctorate form the University of Pennsylvania. She serves on the Cape May County Division of Culture and Heritage Board and has participated in the National Arts Program Showcase. She began taking photos more than a decade ago after studying with photographer Scott Griswold at the Ocean City Arts Center. "Participation in this three generational show feels a bit like the 'Jouney There and Back Again' to and from the Arts Center," Betts said. Her photographs include landscapes and portraits. James Betts has won awards for his photographs of dogs. Marley, his golden retriever, appeared on the cover of Orvis Catalog last year. He is a winner of the Ocean City Arts Center Juried Photography Show. Betts is part-owner of a third generation Turf Farm in Upper Township, New Jersey. In addition to animals, he frequently photographs his daughter Felicia and landscapes. Felicia Betts, a junior at Atlantic County Institute of Technology majoring in Performing Arts, began taking photographs while in Junior High School. She tries to incorporate in her photos the "ordinary world in extraordinary ways". Many of Ms. Betts' photos are landscapes. Ocean City Arts Center Executive Director Rosalyn Lifshin said, "We are so happy to partner with such a talented and community-oriented family. The Betts family has supported the Southern New Jersey Arts Community for many years." For further information go to www.oceancityartscenter.org
