The intersection of 34th Street and Bay Avenue in Ocean City now features a decorative display of sand and lifeguard boat. Visitors traveling to Ocean City over the 34th Street Bridge this summer will catch their first glimpses of the beach a little bit sooner.
34th Street 2 The city on Friday completed a project to create a display that features pilings, beach sand and an Ocean City Beach Patrol lifeguard boat. The work is part of an ongoing effort to beautify the Ninth Street and 34th Street "gateways" to Ocean City — where most visitors arrive after traveling across the causeways from the mainland. The small display replaces an empty lot that featured cracked pavement. Community Operations Director Roger McLarnon said Monday that the city has been talking about doing something at the location for six or seven years. Buried electrical lines provided an obstacle to some ideas, McLarnon said.
