Deadline for Mayor and Council Candidates Comes Monday

City Hall in Ocean City, NJ. The deadline for candidates to submit petitions to be included on the ballot for the May 13 municipal election is 4 p.m. Monday (March 10). Ocean City voters will choose a mayor and fill three at-large seats on City Council. In the interest of providing consistent coverage, OCNJ Daily will announce the full field of candidates only after the Monday deadline. The races are expected to be contested and include incumbents and challengers. The seats to be decided are currently held by Mayor Jay Gillian and City Council members Michael Allegretto, Keith Hartzell and Scott Ping. All seats include four-year terms. City Council includes seven members — four elected from the city's individual wards and three elected at-large by the entire Ocean City electorate. Petitions must be certified before the final field of candidates is set.
