Historic Preservation Commission Chairman John Ball presents Fred Miller with a proclamation thanking him for his service. The Ocean City Historic Preservation Commission read a proclamation Tuesday, thanking Fred Miller for his service. Miller had been a member of the commission since January 2000, before stepping down earlier this year. The proclamation noted that he had "earned respect for his professionalism" and thanked and congratulated him for his work. Miller, in turn, thanked the commission for upholding their mission. "We're careful about what we tear down, but we're also careful about what we put up," he said. Miller is a retired teacher and Ocean City Beach Patrol lifeguard. He has served as a trustee of the Ocean City Historical Museum and a member of the Cape May County Culture and Heritage Commission. He and his wife, Susan, are authors of several books on Ocean City history. The commission is charged with working to preserve all building sites, places, landmarks and structures of historical or architectural significance in Ocean City.
