The Boardwalk Art Show in Ocean City, NJ, is set for Aug. 1 to 3, 2014.
The Ocean City Arts Center's 52nd Boardwalk Art Show will be held Friday through Sunday, August 1 to August 3.
The show will run from 8th to 11th streets on the Boardwalk from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
More than 60 artists will participate in one of the longest-running fine art shows in the country. The Boardwalk Art Show is one of few multi-day shows that is purely two-dimensional juried fine art.
The Arts Center also does not take a commission for art sold during this show, which helps the artist offer work at a better price.
The Juried Categories are Oil/Acrylics, Watercolor, Drawing, Hand-pulled Prints, and Photography. Prizes total more than $2,000 including a Purchase award where the Ocean City Arts Center buys a piece of art and adds it to the Permanent Collection at the Center. It is then exhibited throughout the year in one of the studios.
In addition, Aubrey Dutton, a watercolor artist who sold his art at the show for many years, is honored by his children, Barbara and Richard, with the $200 Aubrey W. Dutton Memorial Award. Other awards are Best of Show for $500; Second Place for $350; Third Place for $250 and three Honorable Mention awards at $100 each.
In 2014, artists are from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, Maryland, Virginia and Florida. Arlene Fisher, Lancaster, Pa., has participated in the show for more than 40 years. Many of the other artists have been in the Boardwalk Art Show for more than a decade.
Many artists enjoy this show more than others because of the huge Boardwalk crowd. Many visitors now plan Ocean City vacations around the show, which is always the first weekend in August.
The Ocean City Arts Center runs fundraisers throughout the year, but this one is the Center's biggest event.
"The first Boardwalk Art Show in 1962 served as the genesis of the Ocean City Arts Center, which today proudly continues to sponsor the show as a much beloved and much anticipated tradition along the Eastern seaboard," Board of Trustees President Dr. Jack Devine said.
Spaces for artists are $125 for three days and are still available by calling (609) 399-7628.
