Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian
The following is Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian’s weekly update to citizens posted on Friday, August 22.
Dear Friends,
Earlier this week we received confirmation that the long-awaited beach replenishment project for the south end of Ocean City is currently out to bid by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
We received more great news this week that Ocean City is ranked second in the country in projected median income growth for the years 2013 through 2017, according to a recent report written for the U.S. Conferences of Mayors.  This report comes following other recent positive financial news for Ocean City including our Standard & Poor’s rating, clean audit and bond sale interest rates.
This information is great for our community, our local businesses, our residents and our investors.  In the report, Ocean City is ranked well above the median and other South Jersey areas.  We feel the positive findings in this report will reinforce our efforts to attract families to Ocean City and attract small business to relocate and invest in Ocean City.
I would also like to share with you, that thanks to the help of the Chamber of Commerce, the Ocean City Downtown is a finalist in the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association People's Choice competition for outstanding downtowns in New Jersey.  Beginning today, the public will have the opportunity to vote for the Ocean City Downtown.  Voting will close on September 26, 2014, and the three area winners will be announced early in October. I believe our downtown is the best in New Jersey, and I ask everyone to visit the voting website and vote to support our downtown.  The voting website is: http://njplanning.org/news/peoples-choice-awards/
Thank you for your help and continued support or our great city. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Warm regards,
Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
