Registration for Ocean City's popular summer recreation programs for people of all ages opens Thursday, May 1.

Programs in the arts, academics and athletics attract thousands of participants each year, and in the past, registration involved lining up like concert-goers to get first crack at available spots.

But in 2011, registration moved online (as well as in-person), and that streamlined the process.

Many programs have limited space, so participants are encouraged to take advantage of online registration:

  • Browse the online brochure of 2014 summer recreation programs available at www.ocnj.us/recreation.
  • Register for a free online Community Pass account by following the same link.
  • Sign up for programs from home when online registration opens at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 1. Registration will also be available in person at the Ocean City Sports and Civic Center (at Sixth Street and Boardwalk) or at the Ocean City Aquatic and Fitness Center (17th Street and Simpson Avenue) at the same time.

Available programs cater to a wide range of ages and interests — from tiny tots tumbling to a golf clinic (with an emphasis on chipping and putting), from junior lifeguard camp to "Cool Chemistry," and from Little Miss Ocean City to "Fishing Fundamentals."
