Schedule of Easter Weekend Events in Ocean City

The first of two Easter Egg Hunts on the beach in Ocean City (NJ) was held April 12. A second is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Ocean City's spring awakening continues this weekend (April 19 and 20) with a full schedule of Easter Weekend events. The Ocean City Tabernacle will host its annual "Living Last Supper" on Thursday and Friday. Saturday brings the Woofin' Paws Pet Fashion Show and an Easter Egg Hunt on the beach. Easter Sunday includes a sunrise service and the traditional Easter Fashion Promenade. Half-price ticket sales for Ocean City Boardwalk rides continue at Playland's Castaway Cove (shop online) and Gillian's Wonderland Pier (shop online) with ticket windows open to walk-up traffic noon to 5 p.m. "LIVING LAST SUPPER": In this unique program, a live cast of actors sits frozen in a portrayal of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting. One by one, each disciple comes to life to talk about what Jesus and his revelation means. The program will be presented at the Ocean City Tabernacle (550 Wesley Avenue) at 7 p.m. Thursday (April 17) and Friday (April 18). THE WOOFIN’ PAWS PET FASHION SHOW: This event starts 11 a.m. Saturday (April 19) at Carey Stadium (Sixth Street, just off Boardwalk). Registration begins 10 a.m. This event is a competition for any “pet that will not eat another pet,” but it is overwhelmingly patronized by dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, bunnies, Guinea pigs and sometimes white mice. Categories include Best Dressed, Bonnet, Intelligent Pet Tricks, Bathing Suit, Owner Pet Look Alike and Super Hero Costume. Best friends pay $5 per pet, which benefits the Ocean City Humane Society, a no-kill shelter. The Humane Society will have a table onsite where spectators can make a voluntary donation. Best of Show receives the Woofin’ Paws Plaque for Perfection in memory of Dean Schofield, a valued volunteer of the Public Relations Office. EASTER EGG HUNT: The second of two Easter Egg Hunts will be held on the beach between 11th and 13th
streets at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19 (don't be late ... the event moves quickly). The first event was held last weekend. The hunt was divided into five age groups:: 2-and-unders, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds, 5-year-olds and ages 6-7. Rain date is April 20 at 2:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Ocean City Boardwalk Merchants Association, which provides 180,000 plastic eggs filled with candy and toys. EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE: The nondenominational service will be held at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace starting 6:30 a.m. Sunday (April 20). The Rev. David Bailey, founder of Ranch Hope, will be guest speaker. Easter music is scheduled with trumpets, congregational singing, the students of Nancy Fox and pianist, Jeff Seals. The service is sponsored by the Ocean City Ministerium and Ecumenical Council. There is free parking at 8th and 9th St. boardwalk lots and other city lots. EASTER FASHION PROMENADE: The annual event will be held in front of the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Judging begins at 1 p.m. The Easter Bunny will pose for photos on the south side of the Music Pier and distribute chocolate bunnies to children.
