The International Surfing Day Festival moves from 59th Street to Seventh Street in Ocean City this year.

The International Surfing Day Festival in Ocean City will be held 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday (June 20) on the beach at Seventh Street.

The event is observed throughout the world on the summer solstice. It celebrates the sport of surfing and helps raise awareness about the importance of protecting the world’s oceans, waves and beaches.

The South Jersey Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will host the event in Ocean City for the 10th year. This year it moves downtown to Seventh Street from  the beach at 59th Street, where it was held in past years.

For the first time, the Ocean City Beach Patrol will hold a water safety class for kids. Anybody who participates in the class (at 3:30 p.m.) or in a beach cleanup (open to all ages) will be eligible for free surfing lessons between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The event also will include live music, sunset yoga (at 6:30 p.m.), and demonstrations of stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), kayaks, Hobie cats, kite surfing and other surf equipment.

The event is free and all are invited and encouraged to bring boards to surf.

See more information on the International Surfing Day Festival event page.

The long-range marine forecast and surf forecasts for Friday call for an ocean wind and hip-high choppy surf.
