A break-in at a local pizzeria led to a high-profile customer this week.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill stopped in at Carluccio's Coal Fired Pizza in Northfield on Thursday.

The visit happened about a week after the restaurant was one of several victims of a burglary spree.

Vito Anderson, 40, is charged in more than three dozen cases across several counties

His latest arrest came last week, after he was found gambling at Bally's Atlantic City with his allegedly ill-gotten gains.

Anderson was in possession of $50 stacks of dollar bills and paper-wrapped coins that matched the description of about $1,300 stolen from Carluccio's pizzeria, authorities said.

"I'm angry because of all of the damage he caused, but I'm happy that he was arrested," Carluccio's owner Carlo Citera said. "The cops did an unbelievable job finding him."

Anderson was ordered held in jail pending what an Atlantic County judge said he hopes will be a stepped-up program through Cape May County's Mental Health Court, where Anderson has been a defendant in several of his cases.

Citera, who lives in Margate, said the governor was in the area and heard about the break-in, so she stopped by.

She is far from the shop's only high-profile customer.

Carluccio's was featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" in March 2015 and then revisited in September 2022.

Staff writer Nanette LoBiondo Galloway contributed to this report.
