Press releases from the Sixers rarely include good news anymore, and Wednesday was no exception as the team sent out word that starting forward Kelly Oubre Jr. will be sidelined at least two weeks with a sprained lateral collateral ligament in his left, shooting elbow.
The injury was announced the day after Oubre scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the team's 139-129 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Oubre shot 10-for-24 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the foul line. If there was a play in which he was injured, it didn't seem to be very noticeable.
Oubre talked to reporters after the game, with his two children on his lap at the dais.
Asked if he felt he needed to carry a bigger scoring load with the injuries to Tyrese Maxey (out for three weeks with ligament damage to his right pinky) and Joel Embiid (strained oblique), and the suspension to Paul George — which has eight more games remaining — Oubre said, "Obviously being more aggressive, getting more shots on goal and execute our plays and things like that. Yes, I do get plays called more here and there. Kind of the pressure of making shots to keep your team in the game or making plays to make sure that you guys come back or whatever the flow of the game is. Yeah, I'm in a role of that sort, but at the end of the day I'm still trying to play the right way, still trying to be efficient, still trying to get my teammates involved and just elevate my game in different areas. Make shots, for sure. I don't really look at it like that, I just want to be efficient and just be an asset on the court."
Now he won't be back on it at least for another couple of weeks.
