Scenes from the storm

Typically bustling with people, the Boardwalk in Ocean City appears desolate a day after the storm. (Photos by Donald Wittkowski)

Several inches of snow from the weekend storm blanketed the shore communities in Atlantic and Cape May counties, leaving the streets, boardwalks, promenades and beaches with a shimmering white sheen.

Although government buildings and schools were shut down Monday, there was still plenty of activity. Pedestrians and dog walkers got outside to enjoy the winter wonderland-like oceanfront scenery during what was a chilly, but sunny afternoon.

Others were busy using snow shovels or snow blowers to clear the sidewalks of slushy snow and a coating of ice that created slippery – if not downright treacherous – conditions.

Snowfall totals included 6 inches in Ocean City and 5 inches in Cape May.

On the roads, snowplows were clearing the highways, local streets and alleys. For drivers who ventured out on Monday, travel appeared to be relatively easy because of the efforts of the snowplow operators from the Public Works Departments in each town.

Following are photos and videos of the storm’s aftermath in Ocean City, Sea Isle City and Somers Point.
