Ocean City residents may find themselves building snowmen on the Boardwalk again this weekend, just as they did during this storm in February 2025.
Dear Friends,
The latest weather forecast reduces the amount of snow accumulation predicted for Ocean City, but a serious mix of snow, sleet, rain and ice will fall from Sunday into Monday.
With a week of freezing temperatures close behind, we anticipate hazardous travel conditions. The governor this morning declared a state of emergency for all 21 counties in New Jersey.
Our Public Works team is prepared to remove as much accumulation as possible before the streets freeze over. Please limit unnecessary travel on Sunday to let our crews do their work.
All facilities at the Ocean City Community Center (Free Public Library, Aquatic & Fitness Center, Senior Center, Arts Center, Historical Museum), and the Ocean City Civic Center will be closed on Sunday.
The Senior Center will remain closed on Monday.
Trash and recycling drop-off at the Shelter Road Recycling Center will be closed on Sunday. Regular trash and recycling pickup for Monday will be postponed.
All regularly scheduled pickup routes next week will be pushed back by one day.
These decisions are being made only with the safety of our community in mind. We will decide on any potential new closings late tomorrow.
High temperatures next week will not rise above freezing and nighttime lows will dip into the teens.
Thermostats in unoccupied homes should be turned up to avoid frozen pipes. Opening faucets to a drip and opening cabinet doors under sinks can also help prevent pipes from freezing over.
As always, please check on friends, neighbors and seniors to help with storm preparations and to make sure they have everything they need. I will continue to provide updates at the end of each day.
Warm regards,
Mayor Jay A. Gillian
