The Sixers appear to have addressed some much-needed backcourt help as the team reportedly will sign guard Cam Payne to a contract for the rest of the season, according to Marc Stein.
The left-handed Payne will bring some much needed help to coach Nick Nurse's guard rotation which currently consists of just starters Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe and reserve Quentin Grimes.
The Sixers needed a depth option after trading Jared McCain to Oklahoma City for a package of draft picks at the trade deadline earlier this month.
The 31-year-old Payne played 31 games for the Sixers in the 2023-24 season and averaged 9.3 points in 19 minutes of play.
He was acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks along with a second round pick at that season's trade deadline in exchange for Patrick Beverley.
He has a career percentage of 36.8 from beyond the arc and provides a high energy value off the bench.

He played in 72 games for the New York Knicks last season and was in training camp with the Indiana Pacers this season but was cut before the season began. He signed with Serbian club Partizan Belgrade in December.
Payne is looking to secure a buyout with Partizan that, according to Telesport is for $1.75 million. The most the Sixers can contribute to that buyout, according to Stein, is $875,000.
The Sixers will continue play on Thursday when they host the Atlanta Hawks. Philadelphia currently sits as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 30-24 record. After Atlanta, the Sixers will play four of their next five games on the road.
