Ocean City will celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary this summer with a weekly patriotic-themed drone show over the beach and Boardwalk.
The “America 250: Lights Over Ocean City” show south of Sixth Street will feature hundreds of drones lighting up the sky and creating animations that salute America.
The 15-minute shows will be held after dusk on seven Monday evenings from July 6 through August 17.
The weekly event is made possible through a $25,000 grant from the Cape May County Board of Commissioners, sponsorships from Boardwalk merchants and city funding. The commissioners are offering matching grants to all towns in the county that will host 250th anniversary celebrations.
“We have been working with the city administration on this show for some time now,” Boardwalk Merchants Association President Wes Kazmarck said. “We’re grateful that we could pull it off, and we’re excited for the shows this summer. There won’t be a bad seat in the house.”
Mayor Jay Gillian thanked Commissioner Bob Barr of Ocean City and the rest of the members of the Board of Commissioners for their support. He also praised the Boardwalk Merchants Association and the city employees for helping to organize the drone shows.
“It will be a great way to celebrate this important milestone for America,” Gillian said.
