Officer Kayla Ricci talks to Ocean City Intermediate School students Jude Baltozer, left, and Carter Chorin during a police bike safety event in 2024.
After securing their helmets and performing a bicycle check, Ocean City Intermediate School students will ride to school with police officers during the “Bike with a Cop” event at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18.
Along the way, Ocean City police officers will share valuable bicycle safety information.
The event is to raise awareness of bicycle safety and encourage safe practices as students ride to and from school. Parents are invited to join the students and police officers on the bike ride.
The students will meet with the police officers at one of two locations, the Transportation Center on 9th Street or the Wawa on 34th Street. From there, they will ride together to Ocean City Intermediate School. Bikers will arrive at the back of the building on Haven Avenue.
Bicycle safety is an important concern in the Ocean City community, where the sidewalks and Boardwalk create a cycling-friendly environment, the school district said in a news release.
Ocean City Intermediate School’s “Bike with a Cop” is the first of many events planned by the school this year to reinforce the importance of bicycle safety to students and families.
