The only thing more difficult than winning a Super Bowl is winning it all again the next year. With such parity ingrained in the NFL and the intense pressure of playoff football, going back-to-back and kickstarting a dynasty is rare. The Chiefs were the last team to achieve that feat but even they couldn’t stop the Eagles from ruining what would have been an unprecedented three-peat.
Philly now has the chance to add its name to the list of repeat champions and there is no doubt that everyone will be working to that end during the offseason. There are hugely positive signs coming out of Eagles headquarters and anyone thinking about placing their own Vegas bets online should know that Philadelphia is the, admittedly, far-too-early favorite to win Super Bowl LX.
But can the Eagles really win another Super Bowl? All eyes will be on Jalen Hurts as he looks to cement his name in the history of the game. He will need to be ably backed up, once again, if his team is to go all the way. Can Philly really go back-to-back?
Although it is generally understood that repeating championship wins is difficult, this is an Eagles roster and organization that has a lot of experience winning in general. Even though there has been only one Super Bowl triumph in the last seven years, there has also only been one losing season in that time.
There is an expectation that the Eagles will make the postseason and two divisional crowns in the last three years show consistency. Now, a lot of even the younger members on the team can also show off a Super Bowl ring. They know what it takes to win a championship and will be hungry for more success.
A lot of attention gets heaped on the strength of the Eagles offense thanks to the generational talents of players like Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith. They are the ones who score all the points, after all. But it is a number one defense that really wins championships.
There was some concern when it was revealed that the Eagles would be losing five of their starting defense team this summer but the new arrivals and replacements might just be making the D even stronger. The mix of experience and young power is really exciting and should be leading the league once again.
Jalen Hurts is quite simply one of the finest quarterbacks the NFL has seen in recent years. That may be a bold claim when you think of the high level of leadership we see across the league right now. But he proved last year that he is a big game player – alongside all of the rest of his attributes – and he has the complete trust of his team.
It is true that Hurts is extremely fortunate to be behind arguably the best offensive line in the league, has two of the best WRs to throw to, and also had Saquon Barkley to hand off to last season. But good players make their own luck and Hurts kicks into an even higher gear once the playoffs begin. He will want another ring more than anyone.
Saquon Barkley was regarded as one of the best running backs in football when he was playing with the New York Giants. It wasn’t just because he stood out on an otherwise trash team - he is the real deal. He proved as much last season, when he helped the Eagles obliterate the Chiefs in the championship game.
Good things are expected of Barkley again this year. But the spotlight will be on a player who had an incredible 482 touches in 2024. He was fortunate with injuries last season but will be a marked man and, even keeping fully fit, will struggle to repeat the success of last season. Barkley should still be able to push the Eagles forward but he may not be quite as inspirational as his first year in Kelly Green.

Everything seems to be against the Eagles winning another championship and, for the even balance of the league, that is probably a good thing. It should be tough for teams to win every year and the 2025 schedule has really come up with some difficult matchups. Alongside a mostly improving home division, Philly faces the entirety of the AFC West and NFC North, as well as games against the Bucs, Bills, and Rams.
No one said it was going to be easy but that schedule would test any great team. What the Eagles have going for themselves (aside from the points we have already made) is that the NFC is still relatively weak. It would be a surprise if Philly doesn’t make it to at least the NFC Conference Final. Homefield advantage will help there and then it comes down to a one-off game against the best of the AFC.
It is far from guaranteed that the Eagles will be battling it out for a chance to lift the Lombardi Trophy at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara in February of next year. However, it has to be said, this is a team that does not look out of place in championship games. With injury luck, a firing offense, and a dominant defense, the Eagles could be the first NFC East team to win back-to-back divisional titles for 20 years – and then march on to more Super Bowl glory.
