MLB: top prospects to watch this season finale

The MLB is at the midway point of its season. There is still plenty of baseball left to play, of course, but we have already seen a lot of ball to give some judgments on the top prospects to watch until October. From here on, the margin for error is obviously minimized. Every challenge becomes a battle not to be lost (and therefore, not to be missed!). In this context, the world of baseball betting is also becoming more dynamic: the odds on the favorites for the divisions (Yankees, Astros, Tigers, Dodgers, Mets and Cubs ) have dropped a lot, reflecting the increasing competitiveness which is showing in this central phase of the season, as expected. Whoever wants to learn more about strategies or read updated odds, can read this source for detailed analysis and tips on how to bet ahead of the grand finale, which is getting closer and closer.

Who to watch

Without further ado, let’s proceed to analyse the top prospects to follow during the second half of the season. We chose four players that, according to us, are still quite young but can already make some strides on the diamond. They are not All-Stars, at least for the moment (don’t forget to read our story on Ranger Suárez, who is seriously being considered to be called for the All-Star Game) but, who knows, they may very well get there in the near future.

Roc Riggio

Riggio plays for the Yankees as a second baseman. He looks like one of the organization’s biggest prospect breakouts through the first two months of the season. A fourth-round pick from the 2023 draft, Riggio has found his power stroke this year, and it has led to a drastic increase in production, across multiple levels of the minor leagues. Following a recent promotion, the player is off to a torrid start at Double-A Somerset, already having hit five home runs in just his first eight games. His stats are amazing: he has a .333 batting average and an almost unbelievable .879 slugging percentage. We have some doubts on his consistency but the Yankees may have struck gold if he can keep this level in the MLB.

Brennen Davis

Davis is another product of the Yankees’ system. The outfielder joined the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on June 3rd, and, in the last 3 weeks, the Triple-A team has gone on a tear. Right now, the Riders are among the hotter teams in the International League. Their six-game series sweep of the Syracuse Mets, at PNC Field in northeastern Pennsylvania, gave them seven straight wins and victories in 10 of their last 12 games. The streak is not bad at all. It is the team’s first six-game series sweep since April 30-May 5, 2024, at Jacksonville, and tells plenty about the moment of the team and Davis’ impact.

Brady House

The Washington Nationals are not playing their best season. The team is below .500 and is a long shot to make the playoffs (yes, we are being optimistic here) but there are reasons to feel good in the Nation’s capital. The future of the infield starts now, with Brady House as a third baseman. During the sixth inning of his debut match against the Colorado Rockies (which Washington lost), House showed his talent, determination and resilience. The present is dull under the Capitol, but the future may be bright if House grows as his projections suggest.

Jacob Melton

The Houston Astros are developing Melton because they need a solid left-handed batter. The 24-year-old is as athletic as a baseball player can be and he displays this characteristic every time he’s called to the plate. He brings balance, poise and grit to a team in desperate need of superstars, because Houston is always missing something (or someone) to win the American League. There is uncertainty about Melton though, since he seems to lack consistency with a bat in hand. Whenever Melton hits, he hits hard. The issue, though, is that he doesn’t hit that many times the Astros need him to.
