Cape May County Closes Public Sites for Storm

The latest forecast by the National Weather Service calls for 6 to 12 inches of snow in Cape May County.

Due to the snowstorm Monday, the following Cape May County public grounds and facilities will be closed:

Cape May County Zoo and all public parks will be closed Monday and Tuesday for cleanup. The zoo and parks will reopen on Wednesday.

Fare Free Transportation Services will be canceled on Monday. However, Meals on Wheels will be delivered and confirmed dialysis patients will be transported as scheduled. All other services are canceled for the safety of the riders and staff.

Cape May County Senior Centers (Lower Township, North Wildwood and Upper Township) will be closed on Monday for the safety of all participants and employees.

Cape May County Public Libraries: The Cape May Court House Library will remain open Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All other county Libraries (Cape May City, Wildwood Crest, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle City, Upper Township and Woodbine) will be closed Monday.

In addition, public and private schools in Cape May County will be closed Monday.

Cape May County Public Works salting operations will be deployed at 3 a.m. Monday, followed by plowing operations as the snow accumulates.

Plowing and salting operations shall remain in effect as needed through the day and night on Monday. Residents are reminded that unless absolutely necessary, they should stay off the road during the storm for their safety and the safety of others.

“Being the worst winter storm our area has seen since January 2022, the safety of our citizens is our highest priority,” Cape May County Board of Commissioners Director Leonard Desiderio said in a statement. “Facilities and services will be back in service as soon as conveniently possible, and we thank all members of the public for their patience and understanding.”

Updates on services and operations will be posted on social media and the county website as they become available. If there’s an emergency, residents are advised to contact their local police department by dialing 911.
