Parts of the shore from Atlantic City to Cape May could get walloped with as much as 8 inches of snow from a powerful storm expected to spread over the region Sunday night and linger through Monday before gradually tapering off.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from Philadelphia southward to the Jersey Shore.
The latest forecast calls for 4 to 8 inches of snow accumulation throughout southern New Jersey, with some mixing of sleet or rain possible. At the shore, snowfall is expected between 6 and 8 inches.
The track of the storm remains uncertain as of Saturday, so snowfall amounts are still in question.
“Accumulations are expected across most of the region, but higher amounts are expected generally south of the Interstate 78 corridor, with the highest totals in Delmarva and Southern New Jersey,” the National Weather Service said.
Snowfall is expected to arrive late Sunday night and will intensify through midday Monday before gradually letting up Monday night, according to the forecast.
No matter precisely where the storm tracks, there will be enough snow and possibly icing to create slippery conditions on local roadways during the Monday morning and evening commutes, forecasters warned.
“Road conditions will be hazardous. Plan to limit travel, if possible,” according to a statement from the Ocean City Office of Emergency Management.
Following are emergency contact numbers for local utility companies in case of outages or other problems during the storm:
The utility companies recommend that you contact them directly as soon as you experience a problem so that they can properly track outages and repairs.
All Cape May County Senior Centers (Lower Township, North Wildwood and Upper Township) will be closed on Monday due to the storm.
For police or fire department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call the Ocean City Police Department at (609) 399-9111.
