A new study reveals that New Jersey records the eighth-lowest infant fatality rate in the United States, making it the safest state for infants on the road.
The research by Steve Gimblin Personal Injury & Car Accident Lawyers analyzed state-level infant fatality data from 2019 to 2023 using the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Crash Data Analysis and Statistics (CDAN) platform. The study identified the states where infants aged 0-1 face the least risk of fatal incidents on roadways.
New Jersey ranks eighth with 7.81 infant fatalities per 100,000 population aged 0-1, 58% below the national average of 18.75. The state, home to 99,910 infants, averaged 7.8 fatalities annually. The highest total was 11 in 2020, while the lowest was 4 in 2019.
Looking at the study, a spokesperson at Steve Gimblin Personal Injury & Car Accident Lawyers commented:
"This analysis shows encouraging trends in states like New Jersey, where infant road fatalities remain significantly lower than national levels. These states demonstrate that strong safety standards, improved vehicle technologies, and effective child passenger laws can make a measurable difference.
"However, disparities across states highlight ongoing challenges. Even a single infant fatality is a devastating loss, and the data reinforces the importance of proactive education, proper car-seat installation, and targeted road-safety initiatives nationwide."
