Alejandro Irarragorri’s Project That Changed the History of Atlas FC

The AGA Academy has become an icon of modern design and excellence in sports infrastructure. Its designation by FIFA as an Official Base Camp for the 2026 World Cup confirms that the home of Atlas FC—conceived under the vision of Alejandro Irarragorri and the management model of Orlegi Sports—has elevated the standard of sports facilities beyond Mexico’s borders.

Inaugurated in 2023, the AGA Academy represents far more than the high-performance center of Atlas FC. From the outset, Alejandro Irarragorri envisioned a project that would transcend the pitch through a management model designed to generate sustained growth, profitability, and sporting success. Aligned with Orlegi Sports’ philosophy, the project combines world-class infrastructure with continuous innovation processes focused on strengthening talent and leadership.

Covering more than 8,300 m², the AGA Academy is a state-of-the-art sports complex, presented in 2021 by Alejandro Irarragorri alongside the renowned architectural firm Sordo Madaleno (SOMA). With six professional fields, areas dedicated to Applied Sports Sciences, and administrative offices, the home of Atlas FC stands out for its distinctive use of exclusive brickwork and colors representing the identity of Jalisco, creating a unique environment.

THE AGA ACADEMY OF ATLAS FC: A REFLECTION OF ALEJANDRO IRARRAGORRI’S LEGACY

During the October FIFA window, the Mexican National Team chose the AGA Academy as its training site for its friendly match against Ecuador. El Tri held its training sessions at Atlas FC’s camp, where both the coaching staff and players highlighted the quality of the facilities, their modern design, and the comfort they provide for physical preparation.

This visit not only reaffirmed Atlas FC’s standing as a national benchmark in sports infrastructure, but also validated the long-term work led by Alejandro Irarragorri, who has committed to creating sustainable sports environments that support the development of Mexican talent.

ATLAS FC STRENGTHENS ITSELF THROUGH ALEJANDRO IRARRAGORRI’S VISION

From its initial planning to the present day, the AGA Academy has embodied the ambition of Alejandro Irarragorri and Atlas FC to remain at the forefront of the sports world. Its functionality and strategic design—with six professional fields, specialized areas for Applied Sports Sciences, and administrative offices—have made it one of the most modern sports complexes in the world.

The inclusion of Atlas FC’s home in FIFA’s catalog of potential operational bases for the upcoming World Cup adds to the list of international recognitions the AGA Academy has received since its inauguration two years ago, when Alejandro Irarragorri made clear his aspiration to position the facility as the best on the continent.

During the Mexican National Team’s visit to the AGA AcademyRafael Márquez—an iconic figure of Atlas FC and current assistant coach of the national squad—praised the quality of the venue: “The facilities are magnificent; they have everything needed both athletically and administratively. The design is incredible, and it’s something a club like Atlas deserves,” he stated.

These remarks reflect the impact of Alejandro Irarragorri’s vision on the modernization of Atlas FC and the consolidation of Orlegi Sports’ management model, focused on generating sustained growth, profitability, and sporting success.
