Take it from the National Weather Service: This is definitely the time to pull those hats, coats, scarves and gloves out of the back of the closet.
We’re in for some teeth-chattering, bone-chilling weather to start the work week Monday morning.
A blast of frigid air will keep high temperatures in New Jersey locked in the 20s and 30s, while the wind chill will make it feel like the teens or single digits, according to the forecast.
Adding to everyone’s misery will be wind gusts of up to 20 mph in South Jersey, with the strongest winds occurring Monday morning.
“Time to dig out those heavy winter coats! Stay warm out there!” the National Weather Service’s Mount Holly office said on its Facebook page.
A mostly dry cold front will push through overnight Sunday, ushering in the area’s first Arctic blast of the season for Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will fall into the 20s with wind chills in the 10s in many areas by Monday morning, according to the forecast.
Highs Monday will be near to below freezing, with wind chills remaining in the 10s and 20s all day. Lows Monday night will be in the single digits and 10s for many areas, but the wind chill will be less of a factor, the weather service said.
As cold as the temperatures will be on Monday, they won’t be flirting with the record low, though. For instance, Atlantic City’s all-time low for Dec. 8 was 9 degrees, set in 1882, according to the website Extreme Weather Watch.
Following the frigid temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, a storm system is expected to bring mostly cloudy skies and a chance rain, with high temperatures close to 50 degrees for Wednesday and lows around 34 degrees Wednesday night.
