ISIS, Bitcoin, and the American Family Behind Bars: The Explosive Rise of the Woody Syndicate

“Son, did you get the money?”

It was an innocent question on the surface. Just a mother texting her son. But this message—sent by Virginia resident Katy Woody to her incarcerated son Troy Woody Jr.—would later become the tip of an explosive wire connecting a quiet suburban household to ISIS affiliates, assassination plots, celebrity targets, and a potential domestic bombing.

Behind those seven words was a trail of crypto, blood, and betrayal.

The Suburban Disguise

Katy and her husband, Troy Woody Sr., live in a modest home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. They attend neighborhood barbecues. They pay their taxes. They send and receive birthday cards.

But according to two lawsuits and hundreds of pages of court documents, this couple may have secretly bankrolled one of the most bizarre and dangerous terror-linked conspiracies in recent history.

The federal civil RICO suit (Case No. 2:24-cv-09601) and a separate state civil action filed in Los Angeles accuse the Woodys of aiding a complex extortion and assassination plot involving their son, his fellow ISIS terrorist inmates, and another overseas terror affiliate. Their alleged tools were cryptocurrency wallets, burner phones, prison bribes, and money transfers disguised as gifts.

It was the perfect suburban cover for a deeply twisted syndicate.

Meet the Masterminds

At the center of the Woody Syndicate sits a disturbing trio.

First, there’s Troy Woody Jr., a convicted murderer. He made headlines in 2018 for killing his girlfriend, Tomi Michelle Masters, in Manila. Investigators allege he drugged her, stuffed her body into a box, and threw it into the Pasig River. Her last text messages to friends mention “bitcoin laundering and weird drug stuff.” That line would prove prophetic.

Then there’s Mir Islam, another inmate affiliated with ISIS, currently incarcerated with Troy Woody in Manila for murder. Islam has a history of cybercrimes, conspiracies, crimes, “swatting” attacks, and using deepfakes to blackmail victims. His fingerprints are all over earlier criminal cases on both coasts.

But the most chilling name in the file belongs to Adam Iza (birth name Ahmed Faiq), also known by his alleged ISIS alias, Iza the God. An Iraqi citizen holding a US green card with ties with ISIS, Iza has been flagged by Homeland Security and is described in the lawsuit as the “spiritual and operational commander” of the criminal enterprise. He is believed to have coordinated international communications, finances, terroristic activities and orders.

Together, this trio of digital predators and real-world killers built a system of threats, assaults, fake identities, cryptocurrency laundering, and psychological warfare.

And at the center of their web? The Woody parents.

Family-Funded Terror

Evidence from the lawsuits suggests Katy and Troy Sr. did more than support their son emotionally. They were allegedly his financial pipeline.

Text messages and Telegram chat logs submitted in the RICO case show Katy Woody regularly sending money that funded illicit prison activity, robberies, kidnaps, terrorist activities, murder conspiracies and more. She allegedly purchased cryptocurrencies, covered bribes for prison guards, and paid for devices smuggled into facilities. Her husband, Troy Sr., was more subtle but reportedly signed off on numerous transfers. The state case (Case No. 25STCV12990) holds him responsible for AIDING & ABETTING, BATTERY and CONSPIRACY.

In one message, Woody Jr. brags to Mir Islam that “mom’s in” and “she gets it.” Another shows him explaining that his parents “know it’s the game.”

For investigators, this wasn’t misguided love. It was an active participation.

The Woody Crime Family Hit List

Their most high-profile target was Enzo Zelocchi, an actor, producer, entrepreneur, and public figure. Known for his projects, A-Medicare and active development of Checkmate (regarding this entire matter), Zelocchi was chosen as a target and victim of vicious armed attacks, kidnap attempts, robberies, home invasion, murder conspiracy, psychological pressure point and more - according to court filings.

He wasn’t the only one.

His girlfriend, Vanessa, whose father is a prominent Christian leader tied to both President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also appeared in the group’s targeting materials. Screenshots from encrypted chats detail surveillance, online harassment tactics, and mentions of “flipping her father”, which also include details of the direct implication of attorney Ron Miranda that allegedly physically and emotionally harassed Vanessa at her work place and home with threats and yelling defamatory statements on behalf of Troy Woody Jr to put her under pressure.

The conspirators seemed to believe that targeting Vanessa would send shockwaves through religious and political circles. They referred to her as a “gatekeeper to get to Zelocchi.” The implication was clear: destabilize her life, and the rest crumbles.

But it didn’t stop there.

The Celebrity Factor

In what can only be described as surreal, the group also referenced Steven Spielberg and Margot Robbie as high-value targets.

The rationale? Visibility. Influence. Emotional impact.

In one disturbing chat exchange, the group discusses targeting Robbie during a publicity cycle and Spielberg during a planned appearance. Their names were treated like strategic assets—icons that could be leveraged for maximum social disruption.

The court documents don’t detail how close these threats came to execution. But their presence in the plot gives the case an almost cinematic level of menace.

Terror on American Soil

The most terrifying detail in both lawsuits comes from a 2023 LAPD report.

According to the filing, Mir Islam and Troy Woody Jr. were caught discussing a plan to detonate C-4 explosives in Los Angeles. The conversation included coded references to supply chains, drop locations, and potential civilian targets. Court records cite a conversation where Woody Jr. says, “We’ll light it up, for real,” in reference to a coordinated ISIS-led effort.

The report notes that the explosives were intended to be “symbolic and catastrophic.” Whether the plan was operational or aspirational remains unclear, but the threat was real enough to involve multiple federal agencies.

Once again, the money trail led back to Katy and Troy Sr.

The suit alleges that funds sent by the parents directly paid for devices and crypto used to communicate with Iza overseas. Their support, the plaintiffs argue, may have helped bring the United States closer to a domestic terror event than anyone realized.

The Evidence Trail

Everything about this case has the surreal energy of a Netflix series. But the evidence is real.

Screenshots of conversations show detailed instructions for harassing targets. Digital files reference crypto wallets, fake identities, and VPN routes. There are passwords, IP addresses, and recovery emails—all tied to the syndicate’s ecosystem.

Telegram chats reveal a disturbingly businesslike tone. These were not emotional outbursts or vague fantasies. They were logistics meetings. Assignments. Contracts.

In one thread, Woody Jr. tells Iza he needs “more ammo,” a phrase investigators believe was code for funds or threats. In another, Mir Islam offers to “handle the girl” with AI-generated harassment scripts.

Each file strengthens the case that this wasn’t a one-off crime. It was a network. A syndicate. And it operated across borders, inside prisons, and through family bank accounts.

Enter Judge Percy

The federal case is now in the hands of Judge Percy Anderson, nicknamed by legal insiders as “No Mercy Percy.” Known for his strict rulings and refusal to entertain delay tactics, Anderson is already moving to expedite hearings.

If criminal charges follow, as sources expect, this case may become one of the most significant domestic terror trials in years. The civil proceedings alone have triggered interagency coordination between the LAPD, FBI, and DHS.

Court watchers believe this trial could redefine how America prosecutes terror-affiliated cybercrime, especially when it originates from prison with the coordination of ISIS terrorists that hired corrupted Sheriff Deputies to execute criminal activities.

The Family That Funded a Nightmare

The Woody family started as a broken branch on the tree of American suburbia. A son imprisoned for murder. Parents struggling to make sense of it.

But what happened next defies belief.

They didn’t walk away. They didn’t grieve and distance themselves. They got involved. They paid. They enabled. They made it worse.

Now, with lawsuits piling up and federal agents closing in, Katy and Troy Sr. may soon be answering to more than just civil court. Their suburban silence, their wire transfers, and their refusal to say no may have helped bring the country inches away from a disaster.

And that message—“Son, did you get the money?”—will go down as the line that cracked the case wide open.

In the criminal federal investigation suspects list also figure: Krystal D Preston (birth last name Woody) and Daniel K Preston for their direct collaboration with the "Woody crime family" and Troy Woody jr's attorney Ron Miranda (Los Angeles based attorney) for filing a bogus lawsuit (dismissed) aimed to run and facilitate a criminal extortion on Enzo Zelocchi, while Ron Miranda allegedly was directly communicating with ISIS terrorist Adam Iza when victims were under attack. Based on evidence Miranda had full knowledge of the criminal activities (the investigators are in possession of personal chats between Iza and Miranda and witnesses’ statements). And as last but not least in the criminal federal investigation suspects list also figures disgraceful private detective Kenneth Childs owner of Paramount Investigative Services based in Los Angeles for his alleged criminal collaboration with Adam Iza and the corrupt Sheriff Deputies (they all plead guilty) for targeting innocent victims and assist with the planned violent attacks all on record.

More to come… the FBI is definitely not done yet with arrests and federal indictments.
