Dear Friends,
The HVAC replacement work in the Ocean City Free Public Library is on schedule, and the library will reopen to the public at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23. The project will move to the adjacent Ocean City Historical Museum, which will be closed for approximately two weeks starting on Monday.
Our contractor will plaster the pool at the Aquatic & Fitness Center tomorrow, and the project remains on schedule to be complete in early October.
Bids for construction of the new Ocean City Police Department substation at Eighth Street and Boardwalk will be opened Oct. 3, and we hope to award a contract on Oct. 10.
Even though the weekend weather forecast looks great, an offshore low-pressure system is expected to generate the highest tides of the year. Significant street flooding is likely. Please monitor conditions and be prepared to move vehicles well in advance of high tides throughout the weekend. More information on the forecast, the tide schedule and safe parking is available here.
I want to remind you all about the town hall meeting planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, October 19 at the Ocean City Tabernacle. The administration seek feedback on open space, address trash and recycling pickup, and anything else of concern to the community.
The OCNJ Half Marathon is on for Sunday, and more than 1,700 participants are registered for 13.1-mile, 10-mile and 5-kilometer races. Please use caution on roadways along the course and be aware that the Ocean City-Longport Bridge will be closed from 8 a.m. to approximately 10:30 a.m. If you get a chance, take a minute to cheer on the competitors.
Michele and I would like to extend deepest condolences to the Beisler and Ortiz families, who lost loved ones in a tragic accident that took the lives of a youth football player and a coach. Easton Beisler was the son of Scott and Lauren Beisler and the grandson of Steve Brady, a friend and former Ocean City Home Bank president. A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 21) at the Ocean City Tabernacle.
Warm regards,
Mayor Jay A. Gillian
