Four amazing incidents from the history of the Olympic Games

A major competition like the Olympic Games rarely goes by without amusing situations. Today, we will recall some fascinating stories.

By the way, spectators of the Olympic Games can easily make money on the organizers' miscalculations. Today, virtual gambling clubs in France from the site https://gitpa.org/ offer betting on a variety of events during the tournament. Makkaila and her grimace

The face of the London Olympics was the American gymnast who won the silver medal in the vault, although she was hoping for gold. Her facial expression at that moment was so memorable that comedians parodied it many times, and even US President Barack Obama jokingly reproduced something similar.

Of course, the athlete herself could not see her reaction at that moment, and who would pay attention to a grimace at such an important moment? In a later interview, she stated that it was a normal facial expression for her. However, she still managed to win the coveted gold in the team event.

An undisclosed ring

Apart from the doping scandals, this was the most significant scandal of the Olympics in Russia. In fact, there was also corruption, theft, the demolition of private homes without proper compensation, and a host of other problems, but who ever cared? During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, one of the symbolic rings failed to open.

This became the subject of ridicule. An investigation revealed that the incident was caused by incompetent workers from Abkhazia. During the installation, they dropped one of the structures but did not inform anyone about it. As a result, only four glittering rings appeared above the stadium instead of five.

The organizers should be commended. They managed to turn this failure into a meme. At the press conference, Olympic Games manager Ernst came out wearing a T-shirt depicting the incident. This was also later played up during the closing ceremony of the Olympics: the show participants formed several rings, one of which also ‘hovered’ at first but then quickly unfolded to its full size.

Green Olympics in Rio

In Rio, two years after the events in Russia, the water in the swimming pool where the swimming competition was held suddenly turned green. According to the organizers, this was due to faulty instruments that failed to detect changes in the acid-alkaline balance of the water. Although it was not dangerous, it created some inconvenience.

Synchronized swimmers complained that the greenish water made it difficult for them to see their teammates. And celebrity swimmer Ryan Lahte faced another problem. His hair, which he dyed silver shortly before the games, took on a green hue due to a reaction with the water. It's hard to say exactly how this affected his performance, but he was pleased with his result in the 4x200m freestyle relay and came home with a gold medal.

A killer look

At the same time, in the Brazilian capital, American swimmer Michael Phelps demonstrated his serious approach to swimming and athletic competition. While preparing for his performance, he closely followed the training of his South African rival, Chad de Klo. The rivalry between them intensified after the last Games, when the South African athlete managed to beat Phelps in several distances. This upsetting defeat was not forgotten, and Phelps prepared for victory by adopting the Maori practice of casting fierce glances at their enemies before a fight in the hope of intimidating their defenders.
