Promotional Campaigns Enhance Accessibility and Appreciation of Utah State Parks Reaching Record Visitation Surge in 2023

  • News from our partners
Utah State Parks boast over 40 captivating destinations, each offering a diverse range of scenic landscapes, from intricately carved canyons to serene sandy beaches and secluded mountain retreats. The allure of Utah's natural beauty is undeniable, but accessibility has been a concern, especially for those with limited financial means. The solution was to launch numerous promo campaigns.

Record-Breaking Year for Utah State Parks

Utah's state parks experienced a record-breaking year in 2023, welcoming over 12 million visitors according to data from the Utah Division of State Parks. This marked a 21% increase from the previous year. The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute's travel industry report confirmed the trend, noting that Utah's Mighty 5 national parks received 10.6 million visitors, while state parks saw a record 12 million visitors. Additionally, other national places in Utah reported 7.3 million visitors, reflecting a 1.2% increase for national parks and a significant 20.7% increase for state parks compared to the previous year.

Discounts, Promotions, and Community Engagement at Utah State Parks

Utah State Parks beckon adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike with a plethora of promotional campaigns and discounts aimed at fostering exploration and enjoyment across the state's stunning landscapes.  Among the offerings, seniors aged 62 and above can procure the Senior Utah State Parks pass at a remarkable discount, paying only $65 instead of the standard $125 rate. This pass facilitates access to day use entry fees at most Utah State Parks, although it excludes camping and additional amenities. Notably, it does not grant entry to specific locations such as the Jordan River OHV Center or This is the Place Heritage Park, nor does it cover the Davis County Causeway fee at Antelope Island State Park. Each pass, valid for a calendar year, expires on December 31, irrespective of the purchase date.
For disabled veterans residing in Utah, the Veterans with Disabilities Honor Pass presents a commendable opportunity. This pass, offered free of charge, mirrors the benefits of the senior or regular annual pass. Eligibility hinges on Utah residency, an honorable discharge, and possession of a Benefits Award Letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs signifying a service-connected disability. Like the senior pass, it excludes entry to select locations and does not encompass camping or other amenities. Annually renewed, this pass underscores the state's gratitude and support for its veteran community. In addition to established programs, Utah State Parks regularly distribute current discount codes and coupons through various channels, enhancing accessibility to outdoor experiences. Through online platforms, social media channels, and email newsletters, exclusive discount codes and coupons are disseminated, offering reduced rates on park admissions, campground fees, and equipment rentals.  Furthermore, Military Appreciation Day, an annual event held every August, celebrates the service and sacrifices of military personnel and veterans. On this day, these individuals and their families enjoy complimentary access to Utah State Parks, accompanied by an array of festive activities ranging from pancake breakfasts to marathons. The date for Military Appreciation Day varies yearly and can be found on the Utah State Parks website. Volunteers play a pivotal role in the stewardship and preservation of Utah State Parks and may qualify for a complimentary or discounted park pass. Opportunities abound for volunteers across various roles, including campground hosts, maintenance workers, docents, naturalists, visitor center staff, and trail stewards. Those interested in contributing their time and efforts can explore volunteer opportunities through the inquiry form on the Utah State Parks website. The surge in visitation to Utah State Parks in 2023 reflects the effectiveness of the promotional campaigns and discounts implemented by the park authorities. As these initiatives continue to evolve, Utah State Parks are poised to remain a cherished destination for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike.
