The Ocean City Pops will perform at the Music Pier.
Each season, the Ocean City Pops Orchestra tries to feature outstanding students in grades 9 through 12 with solo performances on the Music Pier.
In keeping with this tradition, the Friends of the Ocean City Pops will hold its 13th Annual Student Music Competition for vocalists, instrumentalists and pianists at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk.
Founded in memory of Esther C. Weil, a piano teacher and life-long patron of the arts, the competition is open to students in grades 9-12 from Atlantic and Cape May counties. Each applicant must have a recommendation from his or her school or private music teacher.
This year, four categories of prizes will be awarded to instrumental, female vocal, male vocal and piano participants.
The first prize winners will each receive $1,000 and possibly will be featured in a Pops concert during the 2023 summer season.
Each second and third place winner will receive $500 and $250, respectively. The number of prizes may be reduced depending on the number of participants.
