Parking meters will be activated next week.
Ocean City will begin charging for parking on Monday, May 1, now that the busy summer tourism season is approaching.
Each year, parking fees are in effect at the meters and surface lots between May 1 and Oct. 31.
There will be higher parking fees this year following a price increase approved by the city to generate extra revenue for the 2023 municipal budget.
At the municipal parking lots, rates vary depending on demand. The city will now have the ability to charge up to $25 per day during peak times in the summer season. Last summer, the maximum daily parking fee was capped at $20 for the lots.
With the rate increase, the city is raising the fee for parking meters in the Boardwalk and beach zones to $2 per hour. The fee was $1.50 per hour last year in the Boardwalk and beach zones.
Parking meters in the downtown zone will now be 50 cents per hour, compared to 25 cents per hour last year.
Payment can be made by coins, credit card or through the
