Mayor's Message: May 13

  • News
Dear Friends, City Council last night awarded a contract to the Atlantic City Jitney Association to provide a shuttle service to the Boardwalk and downtown this summer. Daily service to the Boardwalk will begin on May 27 and run from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The downtown route will begin on June 14 and run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are finalizing details of the new service and will be releasing more information in the coming week. We’re also looking at this first season as a pilot program, and we’ll refine the service as need be. The city continues to negotiate with Gold Medal Environmental, the company under contract for our trash and recycling pickup. We are considering adjustments to help them fulfill their obligations until a new contract can be awarded at the end of the year. A scheduled final vote on our 2022 municipal budget has been delayed until we can determine any potential impact from a new agreement. Our semi-annual free paper-shredding service will be at the Shelter Road Recycling Center on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The facility will also accept unwanted furniture and other household items. More information is available
here. Saturday is the U.S. Postal Service Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Residents can leave donations of non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes before the delivery of the mail on Saturday. Letter carriers will collect these food donations as they deliver mail along their postal routes, and distribute them to local food banks, pantries, shelters and churches. Please consider helping out, if you can. I would like to wish a very happy birthday to Shirley Baker, who turned 90 on Mother’s Day. Her big smile, warm hugs, kind words and enthusiasm bring joy to all of her friends and family. The Spring Block Party will go off rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on Asbury Avenue from Fifth Street to 14th Street. I want to encourage everybody to come out and enjoy the fun. Warm regards, Mayor Jay A. Gillian
