Tony Polcini: A Family Man Committed to Unity on Council

  • News
Paid for by the campaign of Karen Bergman, Pete Madden and Tony Polcini Hello, my name is Tony Polcini and I am respectfully asking for your vote in the upcoming May 10 municipal election for Council At-Large. I may be a newcomer to the political arena, but I am a lifelong resident of Ocean City and deeply committed to this town, the traditions it is known for and its family-first approach. Being blessed to have called Ocean City home throughout my life, it is an honor to raise my two sons here. When I decided to run for Council, it was thinking about their future that pushed me to take a leap of faith and throw my name in. My sons, JD and Michael, deserve to grow up in a town that is committed to keeping families first, but is also willing to adapt to the ever-changing needs of today’s world. There seems to be a few hot topics this campaign season, so I wanted to take the opportunity to detail my opinions and thoughts on them here. It is important to note, though, that if given the opportunity to be elected, my voice is just one of seven on Council and we are elected to represent the collective voice of the constituents. Some of the potential projects and issues we are facing as a town are decisions made at a county, state or national level. High-Rise Hotels
– I am not for the addition of high-rise hotels along our Boardwalk or skyline. I am aware that a lot of what keeps our taxes low and Ocean City a vibrant place to live and visit is the reliance on tourism. But I believe there are alternatives to high-rise hotels that will continue to make Ocean City a great place for visitors and residents alike. BYOB – I am strongly against the sale of alcohol within our town as well as the option of BYOB. Ocean City is built on the reputation of being family-friendly and the public sale and consumption of alcohol could negatively impact that brand. Also, as a Council member, it would be my job to represent what the constituents of the town want, which has always been overwhelmingly against BYOB. Wind Farm – I do not believe the wind farm is a sustainable and viable option for Ocean City. Green Energy, in theory, is a critical component of forward progress of not only our community, but the country as a whole, but the impact a wind farm would have on our coastal community is not one I support. This election campaign has been eye-opening for me as the fresh face in the political arena. My purpose for running for Council At-Large has always been steadfast – to put the families of this community first. I promise to think of the needs of all, independently and with thoughtful consideration, as to what the wants of the people are that I am hopefully chosen to represent. Ultimately, that is the purpose of Council, to listen, to learn and to serve.
