Coastal Storm for Mother’s Day Weekend

A late season coastal storm arriving on Mother’s Day weekend will impact the region Friday through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Widespread rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.5 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. Widespread minor coastal flooding is expected across the Atlantic coast, Delaware Bay and tidal Delaware River. Areas of moderate coastal flooding are possible in Cape May, Atlantic, southeast Burlington and Ocean counties. Northeasterly winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to around 45-55 mph are anticipated along the Atlantic and Delaware Bay coasts of Delaware and New Jersey. High surf and beach erosion are likely through the weekend, according to the forecast. Gale force winds are expected across all Atlantic coastal waters and Delaware Bay Friday night through Sunday. Storm force wind gusts may be possible Saturday night near and north of Atlantic City.
