Business Volunteers Needed For OCHS Career Day

  • News
By MADDY VITALE The Ocean City High School is hosting a Career/Job Fair in February and is seeking local businesses to participate. "This is a school-wide effort to connect all Ocean City High School students with community employment opportunities," said Tobi Oves, the district’s K-12 college and career counselor. The career day will be held on Friday, Feb. 25, at the Ocean City Sports & Civic Center at Sixth Street and the Boardwalk from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The goal for the event is to enable businesses to interact with students, post their applications, links and website information, among other important items of discussion. "All Ocean City High School faculty, staff and students are committed to making this a successful event,” Oves said in a statement. “This year we have made a commitment to make sure every student attends this event and has exposure to the extensive opportunities that America's Greatest Family Resort has to offer. Our dedication to community partnerships is mutually beneficial for the students and their potential employers.” The goal is to provide a forum to give students the opportunity to develop career readiness skills, develop their resumes and gain fiscal responsibility and independence. Oves noted that these skills are directly aligned with the Career Readiness, Life Literacies, and Key Skill standards set forth by the New Jersey Department of Education. Students will begin to prepare for the fair in the days leading up to the event by determining what employers and positions they are interested in applying to, as well as updating or creating their personal resume. Students will receive a list of businesses about a week prior to the event. The fair is free to business participants who sign
