The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect for Ocean City from 8 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Tuesday. The forecast predicts 2 to 3.5 inches of rain with greater amounts possible in localized pockets. Residents and visitors should be prepared to monitor conditions and to move vehicles if necessary.
All municipal parking lots (surface lots and metered lots) are open for free safe parking. Please be aware that while these lots will offer a safe spot, flooding may block access to them during the storm. Driveways and street parking near mid-block are safer, if those options are available. Parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora. For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades. The city urges all motorists to stay off flooded streets at all times. Conditions are made worse by vehicles plowing through flood waters and creating damaging wakes. Police will enforce against this reckless driving. The forecast also calls for several days of strong north and northeast winds this week. At this time, no coastal flooding advisories have been posted by the National Weather Service. But they are likely to be issued in advance of high tide at 1:08 p.m. Wednesday. For police and fire department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call (609) 399-9111.
