Santa Sighting, Holiday Spirit in Ocean City on Black Friday

  • News
An Old Fashioned Family Christmas in Downtown Ocean City is scheduled for Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, which is traditionally known as Black Friday. This event will be full of holiday spirit and entertainment to accompany everyone’s holiday shopping experience. The event will feature visits with Santa in a lifeboat at the Mark Soifer Park across from City Hall from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be carolers in Victorian costumes, free horse and carriage rides from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and other entertainment on Asbury Avenue. Carolers add to the festive charm during Ocean City's downtown holiday celebration. At 5 p.m. the Christmas Tree at City Hall will be lit.  Santa will arrive in Ocean City and descend from the roof of City Hall with the assistance of a Fire Department ladder truck.  This dramatic entrance is nostalgic of days past and continues a tradition that began in the 1960s. Downtown shops and restaurants will be open late offering discounts. The event is sponsored by the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Development Commission and the City of Ocean City.  For information, contact the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-BeachNJ or visit online at
