The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning in effect for Ocean City from 9 p.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Sunday.
Steady northeast winds gusting up to 45 mph and heavy rain will coincide with an exceptionally high tide to produce “moderate” flooding conditions. Expect widespread street flooding.
Water levels are expected to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 11:46 p.m. Saturday. Forecasters predict a water level of 6.7 feet on the mean low water (MLW) scale. By comparison, last night’s peak tide reached 5.99 feet MLW. Visit
www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels.
Residents and guests should be prepared to move vehicles on Saturday evening well in advance of high tide at 11:46 p.m. and before going to bed. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Parking will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read
letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).
For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades.
