Dear Friends,
I want to thank everybody who helped Doris “Doie” Barnes celebrate her 100th birthday today. It was great to see so many people gather in front of the Music Pier for a brief ceremony honoring her.
Doie served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, is an active member of our local American Legion post and a regular at the daily boardwalk flag-raising ceremony. It was fun to hear the crowd join together to sing “Happy Birthday,” and I’m proud that she is one of our citizens.
I also want to thank all of the event organizers and volunteers, public safety personnel, boat captains, bayfront home owners, grand marshals, residents and guests for making last weekend’s Night in Venice celebration such a safe and festive event. Preparing for the weekend is a massive undertaking, and I’m glad to see this Ocean City tradition continue.
As always, the summer days are passing by too quickly. I hope you all get a chance to get out and take advantage of everything Ocean City has to offer on the beach, boardwalk, bay and downtown. Remember to be safe, be patient, be kind and have fun.
Warm regards,
Mayor Jay A. Gillian
