Ocean City officials and American Legion Post 524 will host a 100th birthday celebration for World War II and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Doris Barnes, known affectionately as “Doie.”
The celebration will take place Friday, immediately following the 8:50 a.m. Flag Raising Ceremony at the Music Pier.
The city will present Doie with a ceremonial piece of the Boardwalk in honor of her service and dedication to the community.
Representatives from the Marine Corps League will present Doie with a proclamation in recognition of her birthday and her service. Cape May County Commissioner E. Marie Hayes will present her with a certificate on behalf of the Commissioner Board.
