Dear Friends,
I took the time to look back on what we’ve accomplished this year and what we have planned for next year, and I encourage you all to read my special
New Year’s Message.
Most of all, I want to wish everybody a great, healthy and happy New Year with your family and friends. Let’s also remember all those we lost this year and keep them and their families in our prayers.
First Night will kick off in a few hours, and if you have not purchased admission buttons for your family, there is still time to do so. Buttons can be purchased in person at the City Hall Welcome Center at Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue through 9 p.m.
After almost two years of living with the COVID-19 pandemic and the normal flu seasons, we are all familiar with the risks of transmission. Please continue to use all precautions and be respectful of others. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available at all venues.
The First Day 5K Run on the Boardwalk is still on for tomorrow. The race will start at 1 p.m. and race-day registration will open at 11 a.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier. Registration for the 2 p.m. First Plunge in the Atlantic Ocean also will be at the Music Pier.
Because New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday, there was no change to the regular trash and recycling schedule this week. Christmas trees – unbagged and decoration-free – can be put out at the curb for regular pickup throughout the month of January.
I hope a great year ahead is in store for all of you. As always, my new year’s resolution is to continue to be open, to give the facts, and to work hard for all – residents, taxpayers, summer guests and everybody who is part of Ocean City. I will always do everything possible to keep Ocean City as “America’s Greatest Family Resort.”
Warm regards,
Mayor Jay A. Gillian
