Connors Farm CSA: The Best Way to Shop Fresh, Shop Local

  • News
Connors Farm Community Supported Agriculture Program, otherwise known as a CSA, gives large and small households a chance to introduce more locally grown produce into their families’ meals for a fraction of the standard retail price. With a wide selection of fruits and vegetables to choose from, the Connors Farm CSA program is perfect for families of all ages. Below, we'll dive deeper into the how it works, the benefits of CSAs, and so much more.

Connors Farm Community Supported Agriculture Program

If you're not yet familiar with CSAs, let's quickly delve into it. A CSA is a great way for you to buy local, seasonal fruits and vegetables directly from farmers in your area. It benefits the farmer and the entire community by distributing the risk and reward of growing the produce. Here's how it tends to work:
  1. The farm offers "shares" to the community.
  2. You (an interested party) buy a share (consider it a subscription or a membership), typically before the growing season.
  3. You receive a CSA box of seasonal produce every week through the farming season. Some farms allow you to customize the boxes. Others may even include artisanal foods like herbs, honey, flowers, and animal products.
  4. You pick up your box at the time, date, and location from the farm.
Connors Farm Community Supported Agriculture program is no different. It follows the same, easy-to-follow format. Now you're all clued-up on CSAs themselves; let's look at Connors Farm's specific offerings!

The Shares

At Connors Farm, you can pick from two 18-week share options — a small one and a large one. The latter (aptly named the "Full Share") costs $795 and feeds a family of four to five people for 18 weeks. The former (affectionately called the "Half Share") costs $450 and feeds a family of two to three individuals for the same period.

The Program Details

No matter which share you decide to choose, you pick your box up every Thursday between 10 am and 6 pm. Connors Farm works tirelessly to prepare the boxes and, since it's fresh produce, they can't hold them for longer than that. Luckily, they've implemented a handy policy that allows somebody else to pick up your share on your behalf if you can't make that time slot!

The Crops

Upon becoming a member of the helpful Connors Farm CSA, you gain access to not only crops raised by Connors Farm themselves, but from other local farms as well. Why? To ensure you get the best of the best produce in the area! Every year, they have different crops available within their Community Supported Agriculture program, all of which are raised without genetic modifications. Despite the annual variations, you can typically choose from the following fruits and vegetables:
  • White and yellow peaches
  • Apples
  • Swiss chard
  • Herbs of all types
  • Lettuce
  • Sweet corn
  • Beefsteak, cherry, plum, and heirloom tomatoes

Why Choose Connors Farm CSA?

#1 Huge Variety

Seriously — you'll be hard pushed to find such a wide variety of fruits and vegetables at other CSAs in the area. Connors Farm goes above and beyond to provide countless options, regardless of the season.

#2 They Practice Safe Crop Raising

All the crops raised on their farm are IPM (a.k.a Integrated Pest Management). They have over a decade of experience using this method and deem it the safest way to product crops. What does IPM do? Well, it ensures the crops they raise are consumer safe while protecting the environment. The consultant keeps a close eye on pest activity, advising when to safely spray based on various parameters. The results of IPM mean exceptionally well-flavored crops, never over fertilizing the produce, and a reduced risk of groundwater pollution.

#3 Fantastic Value

The number and quality of items found in each share are astounding. With a share from Connors Farm CSA, your money stretches much further, giving your family optimum nutrition for less. See more on the Farm’s website here: https://www.connorsfarm.com/csa
