COVID Concerns Halt OCHS Football Game

Ocean City High School’s last football game of the season was abruptly canceled at halftime Wednesday night because of a positive COVID-19 test. Visiting Williamstown was leading the Red Raiders 28-6 when the decision was made to halt the contest. According to NJ.com, Ocean City athletic director Geoff Haines said Williamstown’s administration reached out at halftime with the news that it needed to pull the Braves off the field. A positive COVID test had been reported. “Their administration came over to our administration and said we had to shut the game down now. They came to us and said they couldn’t play anymore,” Haines was quoted by NJ.com.

Powerhouse Williamstown (5-2) captured the 2020 West Jersey Football League Pod C championship. The Red Raiders (6-1) added Williamstown for a Wednesday night game after their traditional Thanksgiving matchup against Pleasantville was canceled. The Greyhounds backed out due to COVID concerns surrounding the Pleasantville football program. Williamstown kicks the extra point after scoring its first touchdown.
