Mayor Jay Gillian announced that the Acme supermarket at 800 West Avenue is tentatively scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. Thursday after a fire damaged the store’s parking garage last weekend.Temporary repairs have been completed and inspected by the city. Acme has submitted a structural engineering inspection report indicating the building is safe to reoccupy, Gillian said.
“I’m glad to see this important community resource back in business, and glad to know that residents who depend on it will have their needs met,” he said in a press release.Police have charged a 12-year-old Ocean City boy with arson for allegedly setting the fire in the parking garage underneath the supermarket. The boy has been released to the custody of his parents pending an appearance in juvenile court.
