The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority is replacing and rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be done on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street.Work for March 9-13:The contractor has installed PVC pipe, backfilled and temporarily paved from the southern terminus of the project on 31st Street going northward to the intersection of 13th Street and Bay Avenue.Work is also being done at the northern terminus of the project near Eighth Street, going southward to the intersection of Ninth Street and Bay Avenue. Starting Monday, the contractor’s south crew will be progressing with work going northward to 12th Street. The contractor’s north crew will be progressing southward across Ninth Street.
Traffic:31st Street is closed to traffic between Simpson and Haven Avenues for the indefinite future.Next week, Bay Avenue will be open to local traffic only from 14th Street to Eighth Street, with the added restrictions that both north and south turns onto Bay Avenue from Ninth Street will be eliminated.In addition, traffic along Ninth Street will be funneled through marked lane shifts while work is ongoing.The traffic lights will be flashing yellow in the east-west direction at the Bay Avenue and Ninth Street intersection. There will be two police officers assigned at this location.See full project update
