The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority is replacing and rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be done on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street.Work for March 2-7:As of the end of the day Friday, Feb. 28, the contractor will have installed PVC pipe, backfilled and temporarily paved from the southern terminus of the project on 31st Street up to a point about 200 feet north of 14th Street.
A second crew has completed work from the northern terminus to a point about 300 feet from Ninth Street. Both crews will continue work toward Ninth Street. The north crew is expected to reach Ninth Street within the next week.Traffic:Over the weekend of Feb. 29 to March 1, two lanes of traffic will be open on Bay Avenue from 34th Street to Ninth Street. After the weekend, Bay Avenue will be open only to local traffic and to local businesses from Eighth Street to 14th Street.Also, 31st Street is closed to traffic between Simpson and Haven Avenues for the indefinite future.See full project update
